Grading Levels:

TEAM LEADER

Someone that leads a group of people in their own section. Responsible mainly for encouraging people, showing how to do tasks, promoting a positive work environment. Very basic levels of responsibility.

TRAINER

Someone that is excellent at training new starters or those with little experience. An excellent communicator. Happy to do the paperwork that is attached. No paperwork. Very basic levels of responsibility.

SUPERVISOR

Someone that has authority over people in their own section. As Team Leader but ensure standards are met and expected to deal with all basic issues or occasional major issues. Levels of responsibility including basic Health & Safety, opening and closing checks, cashing up, quality control, customer complaints, reporting issues to management.

DEPARTMENT MANAGER

Someone that has authority over everyone in their own section. As Supervisor but must ensure standards are met at ALL times and expected to deal with all issues up to a point. Levels of responsibility higher than supervisor and can supervise over other areas if supervisors not around in those areas. Has staff management responsibility – conducting appraisals, interviews. Would generally be a salaried position, has a greater say on staffing and operational items. Always available 7 days of the week. Expected to cancel personal plans to ensure their department (thus the business) remains operational and

ASSISTANT MANAGER

As department manager but responsibility over all departments, comfortable in all management tasks and able to make executive decisions in the absence of anyone senior. Gets involved in strategic decisions. Can hire and fire. Always a salaried position, has a greater say on staffing and operational items. Can be part-time but always available 7 days

GENERAL MANAGER

As asst manager plus can do everything within the business from ordering to payroll, legal compliances, paying suppliers and staff, sourcing and organising new equipment, makes strategic decisions on everything from opening times to menu items, staff uniform to what music is played. Can do almost anything in any section. Always full-time, available 7 days of the week.

OWNER

Has full control over the business and the final say on everything. In theory enjoys the profits of success, but also liable for the losses. Will always have invested a lot of money in the business with the hope that profits pay that investment back over time.
